A former chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations is making plans to visit South America next year.

Sol Sanderson, a member of the First Nations Forum, will travel to Lima, Peru to help advise an Indigenous tribe there on the subject of resource development and management.

Sanderson says some of the main topics covered at the meeting will include reforestation techniques and coping strategies for youth.

He says the first part of his trip will take him to meetings in the city, before he ventures into the jungle to see the community in person.

Sanderson says he hopes the trip results in an exchange of ideas and understanding.

His group was recently awarded $15,000 by the Canadian International Development Agency to fulfill the project.

Sanderson plans to make the trip in January.
