A 79-year-old former priest has been sentenced to two years in a federal penitentiary for sex crimes committed against children in two Northern Saskatchewan communities.

Norbert Dufault pleaded guilty to 8 charges of indecent assault earlier today in Battleford Court of Queen’s Bench.

The charges date back to when Dufault worked as a priest in Dillon and as a residential school supervisor in Beauval in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Some of his victims were as young as 8 years of age.

Four of his victims witnessed today’s sentencing.

A civil suit is pending.
