Food Bank Director Criticizes Government

The Director of a major food-bank in the province says he wishes the Government would begin to share more of its oil and gas money with the province’s poor.

Today in Saskatoon, Bob Pringle helped kick off what he hopes is a successful fund-raising drive for the city’s food bank.

Between now and September 30th, any financial donation made to a food bank in the province will be matched by Kraft Canada.

The campaign was initially launched last year and helped raise $63,000 for the Saskatoon Food bank making it an unqualified success. Pringle says the campaign is a generous one.

And something very necessary these days because in his opinion poor people are not better off right now, despite Government claims Saskatchewan is a have-province.

Pringle says he knows food-banks aren’t the solution to poverty but they are being tapped more frequently by citizens who can’t seem to make ends meet.

For that reason alone he thinks Government should do more – especially when oil and gas revenues are so high.
