A 17-year-old boy charged with the second-degree murder of another teen in Fond du Lac has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

The youth was in La Ronge Provincial Court this morning for what was supposed to be the first day of his trial.

The teen, who can’t be identified because of his age, agreed to accept responsibility in the July 2006 stabbing death of a 15-year-old male by pleading guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

The Crown has filed an application asking that the perpetrator be sentenced as an adult.

The youth will be held in custody until his next court appearance, when he is also scheduled to face new charges believed to have come up during his release on bail.

He will appear in court again on September 21st.
