A gangsta rapper, improv comedians, and a Plains Cree leader will all share the big screen this weekend at the Yorkton Film Festival.

They are amongst the topics of the five films nominated in the Aboriginal category for the festival’s coveted Golden Sheaf Awards.

The nominees include profiles of hip-hop musician Robin Favel, the comedy troupe Bionic Bannock Boys and Cree leader Winston Wuttunee.

The list is rounded out by films that look at the lives of “two-spirited” Aboriginal people, and at native people’s concerns about oilsands development, both in Saskatchewan’s northwest and across the border in Alberta.

The Golden Sheaf Awards will be presented Saturday night in Yorkton.
