Fishing Lake Band Wants Compensation Money, Too

The chief of the Fishing Lake First Nation says he wishes his band could get some of the $2 million relief package being offered by the province.

Yesterday, the government announced it was providing the money to cottage owners affected by last year’s flooding in the area.

Chief Allan Paquachan admits no homes on the reserve were actually impacted by the raging waters on Fishing Lake or Waldsea Lake.

But he says the sheer impact of the emergency forced his band to use up a lot of its money for several meetings it had with the province.

Paquachan says the situation should be better this year, as water levels are low.
