Feds Promise To Help METSI Students Finish Year

A spokesman for the federal government says Metis students who recently had their funding cut off will soon get the necessary funds to complete their school year.

The department of Human Resources and Social Development chose not to renew its funding agreement with METSI when the old deal expired at the end of April.

It left roughly 700 students funded by METSI without the necessary funding to pay for living expenses this month.

But HRSDC spokesman Normand Bergeron says the department will be coming through for students who are not yet finished their school year.

Bergeron can’t say when that will happen, but he expects to know more following a meeting next week between federal representatives and METSI officials.
