A summit examining the effects of uranium mining on Indigenous land begins this week in Arizona.

A handful of people from Saskatchewan’s Athabasca Basin are going down to the event, including Jim Tsannie, Sr. of Hatchet Lake.

He says he wants to educate himself about the true nature of the industry, and see what suggestions other Native people have.

Tsannie also says there’s no use trying to stop the industry, especially given the skyrocketing price of uranium on the markets right now.

Tsannie and the rest of the Far North delegation will head down to Arizona tomorrow.
