After hinting about it earlier this summer, a long-time educator and consultant has decided to seek the federal Liberal nomination in northern Saskatchewan.

John Dorion of the John Cochrane First Nation has officially declared his intentions in the riding of Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River.

Dorion says he has deep roots in the area and has talked with northerners extensively over the past few months to understand their present viewpoints and concerns.

He says revenue sharing from natural resources is one of the hot topics.

Dorion also says the government must do more to address the health concerns of northerners, particularly in the area of diabetes.

He believes the Stephen Harper government has virtually ignored the concerns of the region — particularly Aboriginal people.

A date for decided the Liberal nomination in the riding still has to be set.
