Cumberland House Evacuees Going Home

The evacuation order for Cumberland House is officially being lifted.

Residents were given the option to return a few days ago by local leaders. However, the move is now mandatory for all residents who have been staying in Prince Albert.

Malcolm French of the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority says water levels have dropped in the community and the situation is considered safe.

French says quick heavy rains could conceivably force another evacuation, but he doubts that will happen.

French says buses will begin transporting the last of the residents home later this afternoon.

The residents were out of their homes for approximately 20 days.

French says a flooding-related evacuation usually lasts only four or five days.
