Chiefs Write To Governor-General

Three Saskatchewan chiefs have written a letter to Governor-General Michaëlle Jean, asking her to help them get the reserve land they were once promised but never received.

Leaders of the Peter Chapman First Nation, Chakastaypasin First Nation and John Cochrane band all say they signed treaty in 1876, but were shut out of the land transfers.

Peter Chapman Chief Robert Head says he’s hoping that appealing to Jean in a united front will help spur some action.

Head adds their request is not without precedent.

For example, both the Ocean Man band and the Pheasant Rump band were in the same situation as these three bands, but they have since been reinstated with reserve land.
