The family of a man from the Key First Nation is pleased with the way a coroner’s inquest into his death was handled.

Ivar Dean Brass was a 35-year-old patient at Saskatchewan Hospital in North Battleford.

A coroner’s jury ruled last week that he died by hanging himself on July 30th 2007.

The jury made nine recommendations on how to prevent similar deaths in the future.

Family lawyer Victoria Elliott-Erickson says the inquest answered many of the family’s questions about his death.

She says they were pleased to learn the Saskatchewan Hospital has taken steps to prevent another such death.

Elliott-Erickson says the family was also impressed with the care and respect that were demonstrated throughout the proceedings.

She adds family members were also gratified to know that Brass was well loved by all those who knew him.

She says that is helping the family cope with the loss.
