Members of the Beardy’s/Okemasis First Nation are hoping to see more tourists come their way.

Last weekend, some members of the band held a re-enactment of a fur trading ceremony for the benefit of the general public.

Band employee Justin Scott says the demonstration went off without a hitch and they’ve already lined up forty German tourists to view next year’s performance.

Scott feels the historical presentation could signal the start of new tourism-based ventures for the band, while at the same time, help preserve oral history.

Scott adds the presentation is also aimed at showing non-natives what relations were really like between fur traders and Aboriginal people in those days.
