A company that plans to establish four gold mines in the La Ronge area by 2009 is becoming business partners with one of the province’s largest First Nations.

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band and Golden Band Resources signed an MOU yesterday in La Ronge that sets the stage for band members to share in the benefits of the company’s exploration and mining activities.

Golden Band has also signed a general services agreement with the band’s economic development arm and Procon Mining.

The Kitsaki-Procon joint venture has been providing a range of services at various northern mine sites for years.

Lac La Ronge Indian Band Chief Tammy Cook-Searson says this deal is a welcome change from what’s historically taken place in her band’s traditional territory.

Golden Band CEO Rodney Orr says a deal like this just makes good business sense.

Golden Band has also announced that its underground exploration project at its Bingo deposit is now underway.

Orr says the largest remaining regulatory hurdle to seeing the mines built will likely be taken care of in the first few months of 2008.
