A 19-year-old man appeared in provincial court this morning to answer to a charge of second-degree murder.

Cody James Halkett is accused of killing a 16-year-old girl.

The girl’s body was discovered near the corner of 4th Avenue West and 16th Street in Prince Albert last Monday, May 4.

Police aren’t saying how the girl died, only that her death was suspicious.

This morning, Halkett’s lawyer asked the judge to adjourn the case.

The judge agreed and set the matter over to May 26, when it will be spoken to.

He also ordered that Halkett be kept behind bars until that date.

Halkett showed little emotion in the courtroom, standing with his head down, listening to the charges read against him.

The family of the victim has asked that her name not be released.
