There’s a report Ottawa is prepared to offer lump sum compensation payments to victims of residential school abuse.

Sources have told the Canadian Press that the Assembly of First Nations is on the verge of reaching an agreement with the federal government.

Under the proposed plan, each residential school victim that has filed a claim would automatically receive $10,000, plus an additional $3,000 for every year they spent in the schools.

As well, the report says Ottawa might be willing to participate in a so-called “truth forum” to help the survivors with their healing.
