A man from Cumberland House says he’s pleased and proud to have taken part in the David Thompson Brigade.

For two months, John Laliberte, his sons, brother and other band members canoed across four provinces, retracing the route of the famous explorer.

Laliberte says the process was gruelling but very rewarding.

Lalibete says he was astonished by the generosity of others during the trek, and enjoyed the opportunity to participate in many cultural ceremonies

He notes 12 paddlers started the trek from Cumberland House, but only about half finished.

Laliberte says event organizers provided assistance along the way so the group could complete the journey.

He also says they received encouragement from Native communities along the way.
