An all-Native team of former NHL players is ready to hit the ice in support of a variety of worthy causes.

Hall-of-Famer Bryan Trottier is the general manager for Team Aboriginal NHL Alumni.

Trottier says in addition to playing fundraisers with local Aboriginal teams across the country, the ex-NHLers will be available to conduct hockey clinics, visit schools and act as motivational speakers.

Trottier says the players will visit classrooms and talk about staying in school, substance abuse, goal-setting and motivational skills to help the Native leaders of tomorrow.

The team hasn’t been announced, but Trottier is eyeing former NHLers like George Armstrong, Reggie Leach and Jim Neilson.

BMO Financial Group has agreed to be the team’s major sponsor for its tour this winter.
