Woman Gives Birth on Flight to Wollaston Lake

A Norcanair flight from the Hatchet Lake Lodge to Wollaston over the weekend started with two passengers but landed with three.

 

Pilot Mike Rooney says he received a call Sunday to pick up a woman from the lodge that was having contractions.

 

Rooney says when they arrived, Josephine McKenzie was a lot farther along than they expected.

 

Rooney and his co-pilot were keeping an eye on the expectant mother during the flight, but before they could land, McKenzie gave birth.

 

Rooney remembers breathing a sigh of relief when he heard the newborn cry.

 

Nurses from the Wollaston Lake clinic met the plane as soon as it landed.

 

Both mother and child are said to be doing fine.
