The Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation officially launched a new on-reserve training initiative with the grand opening of the PBCN Teacher Education Program today.

25 students are enrolled in the 5-year post-secondary program which will be conducted in Pelican Narrows.

Interim cooridinator Mel Linklater says the program was the result of a joint survey that found students are tired of leaving their home community to further their education.

Linklater says the program should also go along way in addressing a shortage of teachers in northern Saskatchewan.
