More Funding Available for Northern Municipalities

Northern municipalities will have a little more funding at their disposal over the next few years.

The province has announced its renewing its Northern Capital Grants Program for another 5 years.

Northern Affairs Minister Buckley Belanger made the announcement today in La Ronge.

The government is making 8.3 million dollars available to northern municipalities over the next 5 years, which represents a 12 per cent increase in funding from the last 5 years.

The program was started in 1983 to give northern municipalities another source of funding for capital projects.

Belanger says the province knows communities in the North need this type of funding.

Even though it’s up to the municipalities themselves to decide how they’ll use the funding allotted to them, Belanger says history has shown that water and sewer projects usually get top billing.
