Five staff members of Saskatchewan’s Cree Court were honoured by the provincial government yesterday.

Premier Lorne Calvert presented the Premier’s Award for Excellence in the Public Service to Donald Bird, Angus McLean, Carole Ring, Carla Swan and Marion Yablonski.

The group includes a Cree-speaking Crown prosecutor and court clerk, as well as a Legal Aid counsel who is currently taking Cree language training.

This is the first year for the award, which recognizes outstanding contributions by Saskatchewan public servants.

The Cree Court was established in 2001 and makes a circuit of 3 locations in northern Saskatchewan.

The Cree Court also includes Cree-speaking judge Gerry Morin.
