Three northern Saskatchewan First Nations are among dozens of bands across Western Canada that lost out in a major court ruling today.

Members of the Clearwater River, Black Lake and Fond du Lac First Nations had earlier been awarded across-the-board tax exempt status by the Federal Court. That ruling affected all bands covered under Treaty 8.

But the Federal Court of Appeal ruled today that the original ruling be struck down.

Today’s ruling will likely be appealed to the Supreme Court of Canada.
