The reigning champions took first place at this past weekend’s Saskatchewan Native Firefighters Competition in La Ronge.

The fire crew from Black Lake will head back to British Columbia for another shot at the national championships, an event they’ve won 3 of the last 5 years.

Event organizer Richard Kent says teams from right across Saskatchewan participated in a number of different events that mimic what they do in real fire situations.

The team from Black Lake will head to B.C. in August to compete against the top teams from every province and territory for the title of National Native Firefighter Champions.
