The Willow Cree healing lodge was officially unveiled yesterday (Wed) on the Beardy’s Okemasis First Nations reserve.

The six million dollar federal facility is designed to help re-integrate minimum-risk offenders who are of aboriginal blood back into society.

Wayne Easter is the solicitor general of Canada and he attended yesterday’s grand opening. He says the lodge is an inventive approach to re-shaping lives gone astray. He adds critics who feel the facility is nothing more than a cake-walk for dangerous criminals are missing the point.

The lodge can house up to 40 inmates overall and the first are due to arrive in September. illow Cree joins two other similar facilities across the prairies.
