The Canadian Alliance has decided who will represent the party in the Churchill River riding in the next federal election.

In what was essentially a formality, 25-year-old Meadow Lake law student Jeremy Harrison was officially declared the party’s candidate following nomination meetings in La Ronge and Meadow Lake over the last two days.

Harrison estimates the next election will be held in about 10 months. He points out that in the last election, the Canadian Alliance candidate for Churchill River was chosen two weeks into the campaign, a move he feels prevented the party from having more of a presence in northern Aboriginal communities.

Harrison also feels the fact the party has changed its policy on Aboriginal issues since the last election will help him change the party’s anti-Aboriginal image in the North.
