New Chief of Thunderchild a Familiar Face

There’s a new chief on the Thunderchild First Nation, and he has lots of experience in the political arena.

Delbert Wapass, a former FSIN Vice-Chief, was chosen to replace Dale Awasis during a band election last night.

Electoral Officer Gordon Alger says Wapass received 450 votes. His nearest rival received 310.

Besides Wapass, three other people ran for chief: Darryle Weekusk, Harvey D. Thunderchild, and Walter Neal Jimmy.

Awasis did not run for re-election.

This was the second election held on the reserve since October.

The first one, which was held on October 18th, was declared invalid.

That led to yesterday’s vote.

Alger says 926 people voted.
