The 12th Annual First Nations Circle of Honour Awards were handed out last night in Regina.
Air Force veteran Arthur Anderson of the George Gordon First Nation received the Male Citizen of the Year award.
The 73-year-old says it’s a great opportunity for someone his age.
Anderson served overseas in Cypress, Africa and Germany twice.
The Female Citizen of the Year is Patsy Roberts-Head, the Director of Administration for the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
Meanwhile, an FSIN senator was honoured last night for his value of true sportsmanship.
Senator Melvin Littlecrow of the Whitecap Dakota First Nation received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
Littlecrow was unable to attend, so Eugene Arcand spoke on his behalf.
Arcand noted that Littlecrow wanted to pass on his congratulations to all of the award winners, adding to be honoured by one’s community is the greatest honour a person can receive.
Throughout his life, Littlecrow trained racing horses for chuckwagon and chariot races.
