SaskPower Contractor Damages Sacred Site

A sacred site of teepee rings in southern Saskatchewan has been damaged slightly.

The area in question is located near the Wood Mountain First Nation.

Apparently, a contractor was heading to a transmission power line when he took a route he shouldn’t have been driving on.

SaskPower spokesman James Parker stresses the worker wasn’t one of the Crown utility’s employees, but an outside contractor brought in to do some work.

Parker says SaskPower is talking with the local Aboriginal community to see what can be done.

He says, at this stage, it appears only one of the teepee rings was impacted by the heavy equipment.
