The Saskatchewan government says it wants to investigate what happened to a scholarship fund at the First Nations University of Canada.
Officials say close to 390 thousand dollars were in the fund a year ago, but less than 15 thousand of that is currently left.
The provincial and federal governments have cut more than 12 million dollars in funding from the university over concerns of financial mismanagement.
Meantime the chief operating officer for the FNUC says it’s a case of cash management.
Del Anaquod says the fund was apparently used by the previous administration for general operating costs during times of low cash flow.
He adds that all funds for scholarships and research grants should be in a separate account.
FSIN Chief Guy Lonechild believes there is support among the chiefs in assembly for a resolution that will be put forth tomorrow regarding the First Nations University of Canada.
He says there have been many consultations with First Nations and tribal councils over the past week, up to and including last night.
Lonechild says if passed, Dr. Manley Bigay’s report on governance would be ratified and implemented.
