A new group has been formed to aid First Nations in power and energy development.
The National Aboriginal Energy and Power Association is based in Vancouver and already is planning to hold an inaugural conference in the fall.
Its founders say oil and gas opportunities are ripening for several Aboriginal communities across the land and they want to help foster that development.
Chairman Bob Joseph says Canada’s history is littered with examples of how not to develop natural resources, and his group wants to change all that.
He says the association was formed after some Aboriginal communities expressed a desire to get more expertise about power production, transmission and oil and gas.
