Escaped Healing Lodge Inmate Recaptured

The Willow Cree Healing Lodge has recaptured a missing inmate.

At around 10:00 this morning, the institution discovered that inmate Louie Kenneth Bird had escaped.

A search of the grounds was conducted and Bird was apprehended about 20 minutes later.

The 63-year-old man is serving an indeterminate life sentence for second-degree murder in 1985.

The healing lodge is a minimum security institution.

The Correctional Service of Canada says it “will review the circumstances surrounding the escape and will take action where necessary”.
