Crime Stoppers programs across Saskatchewan have temporarily suspended tip intake following reports of a cyberattack involving tip management software used by Crime Stoppers organizations across Canada.
In a joint statement, Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers, Saskatoon Crime Stoppers, Regina Crime Stoppers, Moose Jaw Crime Stoppers and Prince Albert Crime Stoppers said the decision was made after learning that information from the software provider may have been stolen.
The organizations say some people who submitted tips could potentially be identified.
The suspension is effective immediately and will remain in place until Crime Stoppers is confident tips can be received safely.
Residents are being asked not to submit tips during the pause.
Emergency situations should be reported to 911, while non-emergency crimes should be reported directly to local police.
Crime Stoppers says the pause is temporary and more information will be released as it becomes available.
