The Onion Lake Cree Nation will soon be allowed to tap into a new federal program aimed at helping citizens on-reserve own their own homes.
The First Nations Market Housing Fund is designed to get 25,000 homes constructed on reserves over the next 10 years.
A total of $300 million of federal funds has been made available to bands to help them guarantee loans to members.
Onion Lake is just the fifth First Nation to qualify for the initiative.
The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is the only other one in Saskatchewan that has also been allowed to join.
