Golden Band Resources has received environmental clearance for a proposed gold mine north of La Ronge.
The Jolu Central site is situated approximately 135 kilometres north of the community.
The hope is to start production by late this year, but the company had to jump through some hurdles first.
The federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans wanted to see Golden Band’s plan for disposing of used rock.
The company wants to use an existing facility for the process, but some questions were raised.
However, according to company spokesman Gary Haywood, Ottawa is satisfied with the plan to turn the Mallard facility for that purpose.
Haywood says the province already signed off on the project last year.
He adds consultations will take place with the public sometime next month.
