Three Saskatchewan men are facing multiple firearms-related charges after an incident involving a suspect vehicle near Maymont earlier this week.

According to Saskatchewan RCMP, the investigation began on October 20 at about 1:30 a.m. when Saskatoon Police Service’s Air Support Unit was tracking a truck that had been reported driving dangerously on Highway 16.

Police say the truck stopped on Baljennie Road south of Maymont, where the driver exited the vehicle and allegedly fired a gun into the air before continuing to drive.

Battlefords RCMP responded and deployed a tire deflation device, but the truck continued until it stopped in a field near Cando around 2 a.m. Three male occupants then fled on foot.

Officers arrested all three suspects and a firearm was later located nearby with assistance from Saskatoon Police Service’s Police Dog Services.

Battlefords Serious Crimes Unit has charged 23-year-old Walker Higgs of Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation with five offences, including careless use of a firearm, possession of a firearm while prohibited and operating a vehicle while prohibited.

24-year-old Dennis Higgs of Saskatoon faces four charges, including possession of a firearm in a vehicle and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

25-year-old Darnell Starblanket of Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation is charged with possession of a firearm in a vehicle and breaching a probation order.
