A politician from northern Manitoba says she believes there is a chance the federal government may restore funding to the Aboriginal Healing Foundation.
NDP MP Niki Ashton says Indian Affairs Minister Chuck Strahl seemed sympathetic to the idea when she asked him about it in the House of Commons.
However, she stresses it will take more than one minister alone to fix the situation.
Ashton says as many as 950 people could lose their jobs if the foundation goes under.
The organization offers programming to survivors of residential schools, among other services.
Ashton says she will know whether or not her words had any lasting impact when the federal budget comes out next month.
