A security checkpoint has been reinstated at the entrance to Pelican Narrows in an effort to curtail trespassing, illicit alcohol, drug trafficking, and related violence in the northern community.

Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation issued a community notice on Thursday stating that Tipi Security has been contracted to operate the access point.

Under the reinstated safety measures, all individuals entering Pelican Narrows will be required to show valid identification, undergo inspections for alcohol, and participate in screening regarding their identity and purpose for visiting.

Band officials reminded residents and visitors that local restrictions on alcohol and prohibited substances remain strictly in effect.

The First Nation requested cooperation from everyone entering the community to help minimize travel delays, noting the measures reflect a commitment to protecting public safety and the well-being of all community members.
