Councillors Ordered To Pay Legal Fees

Three Peepeekisis band councillors have been ordered to pay for their chief’s legal fees or face jail time.

Enock Poitras, Evelyn Poitras and Howard Desnomie were give notice to appear in federal court on a charge of contempt.

The action results from Chief Beverly Bellegarde suing 16 members of the Peepeekisis First Nation for wrongful dismissal.

Bellegarde was reinstated in September.

Headperson Evelyn Poitras says there is an appeal against the decision to have Bellegarde reinstated.

Poitras was elected to council this past December.
