Six SIRT investigators have been assigned to examine the actions of police following an October 6, 2026, traffic stop on Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation.

Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team, or SIRT, is investigating after a 45-year-old man suffered a serious injury during an arrest by Battlefords RCMP.

According to SIRT, Battlefords RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle travelling on Mosquito Grizzly Bear’s Head Lean Man First Nation at approximately 12:27 p.m. on October 6.

The vehicle stopped in the driveway of a residence. SIRT says two passengers exited the vehicle and were instructed by police to remain inside.

The driver identified himself as a suspended driver with outstanding warrants and was arrested without incident.

SIRT says a female passenger told police that the male passenger was a person with a disability.

Several minutes later, SIRT says a confrontation occurred between police and the 45-year-old rear-seat passenger. Police informed the man he was under arrest, removed him from the vehicle and placed him in handcuffs.

During the incident, the man sustained what SIRT describes as a serious injury under The Police Act, 1990.

Six SIRT investigators have been assigned to investigate the actions of police during the incident. A community liaison will also be appointed as part of the investigation.

The RCMP will remain responsible for investigating the actions of the vehicle’s occupants.

SIRT says no further information will be released at this time. A final report will be made public within 90 days of the conclusion of the investigation.
