Two Onion Lake men are facing fraud charges following an investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds intended for Onion Lake Cree Nation.
The Saskatchewan RCMP says it received a report on March 12, 2026, regarding concerns that funds intended for the First Nation had been improperly obtained. The investigation was led by the RCMP’s Central District General Investigation Section in partnership with Onion Lake RCMP.
Investigators allege that over a four-year period, two men requested and received payments from landholders on Onion Lake Cree Nation in an unlawful manner.
As a result of the investigation, 67-year-old Tommy Whitstone and 54-year-old Richard Stanley, both of Onion Lake, have each been charged with one count of fraud over $5,000.
Both men are scheduled to make their first court appearance in Onion Lake on November 25.
