Regina Police are urging caution on city roadways after three separate collisions involving pedestrians and cyclists were reported within a 24-hour period.
The incidents occurred between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. The first happened at McCarthy Boulevard and Read Avenue, where a cyclist suffered minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle and did not require hospital treatment.
Later Wednesday evening, police responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a cyclist at Quance Street East and Coleman Street. The adult male cyclist was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
On Thursday morning, a female pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at Albert Street and 7th Avenue. She was transported to hospital with injuries described as serious but not life-threatening.
Police say investigations into the latter two collisions are ongoing.
The Regina Police Service continues to urge caution and remind all who use our roadways to know the rules of the road and put safety first.
Drivers:
- Ensure you’re able to see clearly out of all windows/mirrors. Tickets can be issued if your view is obstructed.
- Be aware of your surroundings. If a vehicle in front of you or next to you is stopping, do not proceed or try to go around them as there may be a pedestrian crossing the street.
- All corners are considered crosswalks. Be aware of pedestrians attempting to cross the street.
Pedestrians:
- Cross the street at a designated cross walk or corner.
- As you cross the street, check to make sure vehicles are stopped before you proceed into the next lane.
- Check all directions before crossing and stay alert of your surroundings as you cross the street.
- If you are found at fault in a collision, you can be issued a ticket under the Traffic Safety Act.
E-bikes/E-scooters/Cyclists/Scooters:
- Wear a helmet.
- Follow the rules of the road. If you are on the road, you are considered a vehicle. Know your hand signals and use them.
- If your bike fits the criteria to be on the sidewalk, you must dismount and walk your bicycle when crossing a street.
