A multi-unit Saskatchewan RCMP crime reduction operation in and around Prince Albert resulted in dozens of charges, multiple arrests and no reported break-and-enter incidents during the four-day initiative.
The operation took place between September 23 and 26, bringing together officers from several RCMP detachments and specialized units, including Air Services, Crime Reduction Teams and Combined Traffic Services units. Police patrolled communities including Big River, Ahtahkakoop, Pelican Lake, Shellbrook, Spiritwood, Prince Albert and Rosthern.
During the operation, officers executed 14 criminal warrants, laid 30 Criminal Code charges and suspended the licences of 23 drivers for alcohol or drug-related offences. Police also issued 147 warnings and 14 traffic tickets.
RCMP said six wanted individuals were remanded into custody. Charges laid included impaired driving, flight from police, dangerous driving and obstruction.
The operation was launched after a sharp increase in break-and-enter reports in the Prince Albert area. RCMP responded to 33 break-and-enter calls in September, compared to 11 in August.
Officers also connected with more than 200 residents, offering crime prevention advice and answering questions about community safety.
“This proactive crime reduction initiative was successful. During the operation, we received no reports of property crime in the Prince Albert RCMP area, removed several offenders from our communities and connected with many residents who appreciated the increased police presence,” said Prince Albert RCMP Detachment Commander S/Sgt. Stephen M. Hurst.
RCMP continue to encourage residents to report suspicious activity as investigations into thefts and property crimes continue.
