The University of Regina will be respecting the independence of the First Nations University of Canada.
That’s according to university president Vianne Timmons.
She says the FNUC — through its federated college agreement with the U of R — “will remain financially and legally independent.”
The announcement follows the provinical governement’s decision to withdraw funding of $5.2 million to the university by April 1st.
Timmons says the students of the FNUC are her institution’s priority, but she says it is a very complex situation because FNUC students are in Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert and a number of northern communities.
Yesterday, Advanced Education Minister Rob Norris said the U of R had a “key role” in determining what happens in the future.
