A man charged in connection with a July shooting on Highway 165 has been arrested after Pinehouse RCMP located him during an investigation into suspicious vehicles.
RCMP say Damion Anderson, 34, of Île-à-la-Crosse, was charged on Sept. 9 with seven offences related to the July 26 shooting, including aggravated assault and discharging a firearm with intent.
Police had been searching for Anderson when officers received a report on Sept. 26 of two suspicious vehicles, one of which was allegedly being driven erratically on Highway 914.
Officers located the vehicles in Pinehouse Lake and attempted a traffic stop. RCMP say both vehicles fled, and officers observed Anderson in one of them.
With assistance from La Ronge RCMP, one vehicle was stopped on Highway 2. Two occupants fled on foot, but a woman was arrested nearby and a man was arrested about two hours later with help from Police Dog Services and a remotely piloted aircraft system. RCMP say illicit cannabis and cash were seized during the arrest.
A second vehicle was stopped on Highway 165 with assistance from Beauval RCMP after officers deployed a tire deflation device. Police determined the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Meadow Lake area.
As a result of the investigation, Anderson now faces additional charges including flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, possession of property obtained by crime and possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling.
A second man, Brendan McKay, 24, of Meadow Lake, is facing numerous charges including flight from a peace officer, dangerous driving, assaulting a peace officer and possession of stolen property. He was also arrested for allegedly breaching a conditional sentence order.
Both men were scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on Sept. 28.
The investigation into the July shooting continues.
