Motorists travelling south of Carrot River will need to take a detour while crews replace a culvert on Highway 23.
The Ministry of Highways is completing the $1.5-million project approximately 9.65 kilometres south of Carrot River. The estimated cost includes materials, construction engineering and other project expenses.
Highway 23 is closed at the construction site, with traffic being directed along a marked detour. The RM of Moose Range No. 486 says the detour began Sept. 14 and the work is expected to be completed by Oct. 31, weather permitting.
The speed limit along the detour has been reduced to 60 km/h, and motorists are being asked to watch for construction and detour signage.
Provincial tender information describes the Highway 23 work as the installation of an 85-metre-long, 2.4-metre-diameter polymer-laminated corrugated steel pipe culvert. The work involves open excavation of the roadway and also includes excavation, backfill, asphalt, granular base, riprap and roadside repairs.
The Ministry of Highways’ estimated total project cost of $1.5 million includes materials, construction engineering and other costs beyond the construction contract.
The province estimates the project will take approximately two months to complete, depending on weather.
Drivers planning to travel through the area are encouraged to check Saskatchewan’s Highway Hotline before leaving for the latest information on road conditions, construction zones, closures and delays. The province says Highway Hotline information is updated three times a day or as conditions require.
