A Prince Albert man previously charged in connection with a 2025 shooting is now facing a first-degree murder charge following the victim’s death.
Prince Albert Police say 26-year-old Preston Bird was originally charged on July 23, 2025, with aggravated assault, multiple firearms offences and breaching a conditional sentence order after James Primeau was shot on June 4, 2025.
Police say Primeau died in hospital on March 18, 2026, as a result of injuries sustained in the shooting.
As a result, Bird’s charges have now been upgraded to first-degree murder.
Bird appeared in Prince Albert Court of King’s Bench on Wednesday, September 17,2026, and was remanded into custody on the new charge.
