Saskatchewan RCMP’s Roving Traffic Unit has seized more than 2,000 pounds of illegal cannabis and related products following a traffic stop near Maple Creek earlier this month.
Police say officers were conducting safety patrols on Highway 1 on Sept. 4 when they stopped an eastbound vehicle at about 12:30 p.m. for a violation of Saskatchewan’s Vehicle Equipment Regulations.
During the investigation, officers located and seized approximately 1,928 pounds of dried cannabis, 56 pounds of hashish and 15 litres of THC resin from inside the vehicle.
A 56-year-old man from British Columbia was arrested at the scene. Investigators were told he was travelling from British Columbia to Ontario.
Istvan Mikula, of Rosedale, B.C., has been charged with one count of possession of illicit cannabis for the purpose of distribution, two counts of possession of an illicit cannabis derivative for the purpose of distribution and one count of possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000.
Mikula is scheduled to appear in Maple Creek Provincial Court on Jan. 14, 2027.

Police say the seizure included dried cannabis, hashish and THC resin with a combined weight exceeding 2,000 pounds.
