La Ronge RCMPhave arrested one person and are searching for another following a shooting incident in Sucker River on Labour Day.
Officers responded to a report of a firearm discharged from one vehicle toward another on September 7 around 6:20 p.m. No physical injuries were reported among the occupants of the second vehicle.
Later that evening, police located the suspect vehicle in Sucker River. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle fled northbound on Highway 102. RCMP deployed a tire deflation device to safely bring the car to a stop. Two occupants—a male and a female—abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby wooded area.
With the assistance of a remotely piloted aircraft system, police located and arrested the female suspect. A search of the vehicle yielded a firearm.
Thirty-six-year-old Amanda Venne of the La Ronge area faces multiple charges, including flight from a peace officer, pointing a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. She is scheduled to appear in La Ronge Provincial Court on September 10.
RCMP continue working to identify and locate the male suspect.
Police state there is currently no imminent risk to public safety.
