The Prince Albert Police Service Crime Reduction Team has arrested a second suspect in connection with a break and enter at a Prince Albert hotel that resulted in the theft of an RCMP firearm and other police equipment.
Police say the incident was reported around 1:43 a.m. on Sept. 2 at a hotel in the 300 block of 38th Street West. An RCMP officer reported that a firearm and other equipment had been stolen from a hotel room.
During the investigation, officers identified a suspect and located him at a residence in the 900 block of 2nd Street East. Due to safety concerns, the incident was classified as a critical incident and specialized police resources were deployed. Following a controlled surround-and-call-out, a 30-year-old man surrendered to police without incident. A search warrant was later executed at the residence.
The man has been charged with break and enter with intent and breach of a release order. He was scheduled to make his first court appearance on Sept. 4.
Earlier the same day, Saskatchewan RCMP arrested a 42-year-old man in relation to the same investigation. He is also charged with break and enter with intent and made his first court appearance on Sept. 3.
Police say many of the stolen items have been recovered following searches conducted by Prince Albert Police and RCMP officers. Investigators continue working to identify additional suspects and recover any outstanding police equipment.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Police presence in the 900 block of 2nd Street East has concluded, but anyone with information is asked to contact Prince Albert Police at 306-953-4222 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
